Halloween Mega Store Rips 'SNL' in Revenge for Damaging New Sketch: 'Irrelevant 50-Year-Old TV Show'

Halloween pop-up store chain Spirit Halloween recently criticized the iconic sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” in an X-Post this week after the NBC show mocked the store in a skit last weekend had made.

The store's official X account trolled SNL with a picture of a replica Halloween costume, calling it an “irrelevant 50-year-old TV show” whose ratings are “shrinking.”

Spirit Halloween's made the anti-SNL statement just days after the show, which featured a sketch that made fun of the holiday-themed store.

The skit – which aired during the first episode of the comedy show's 50th season – was a fake commercial for the store that poked fun at its repurposing of shuttered storefronts in cities that have fallen on hard times , only to leave him after selling Halloween costumes for six weeks.

“Thanks to us, what was once a disused AutoZone where a murder happened is once again a thriving business where a murder happened,” SNL cast member Michael Longfellow quipped during the skit while speaking to a Spirit Halloween employee portrayed.

The official SNL-X account shared the sketch on the social media platform with the caption, “When others leave, Spirit Halloween shows up.”

The Christmas Shop hit back at X on Monday, delivering its own parody of the long-running comedy show.

The store shared an image of an “SNL 50” costume included in Spirit Halloween's recognizable orange packaging.

Like Spirit's real packages, the parody included descriptions of the costume, in this case negative lines about SNL's 50th season.

The package read: “Contains: outdated references, unknown actors, declining ratings.”

In the post's caption, the store wrote, “We're great at bringing things back from the dead @nbcsnl.”

X users found the feud between the store and the show amusing.

Comedian and author Lou Perez wrote, “Both the SNL sketch and Spirit Halloween’s reaction are funny. More of this please.”

Actor Nathan Brimmer poked fun at the store, commenting, “Seeing you upset because you got proper service on SNL is delicious.”

Comedian Luis J. Gomez praised Spirit, saying, “Spirit Halloween with the kill shot.”

The latest episode of SNL went viral this weekend for different reasons. Former NBCUniversal executive Mike Sington criticized the show for creating a skit that downplayed the assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump.

In the sketch, Trump — played by SNL cast member James Austin Johnson — urged his rally attendees to stay as gunfire rang out toward him.

“Where the hell is everyone going?” Where are you going? I see you trying to leave but the doors are locked. Come back – we'll have fun. We love my rallies, except when someone goes 'bing, bing, bing' right at me,” Johnson said, as Trump said, with finger guns.

Sington told Fox News Digital this week: “I saw it live and I actually cringed when they mocked the assassination attempts to be funny. I’m not a fan of Trump, but I found it extremely distasteful.”
